A Clinical Study on Speech Rehabilitation after cochlear Implant




Abstract
Nucleus 22-channel cochlear implant was implanted in a 43-year-old postlingual deafened woman on the left, ear, her hearing status had been worsened progressively during medical therapy after right nephrectomy since 1980. And then she had
deafened
totally and bilaterally after May. 1992. 22 active electrodes were inserted in the scala tympani through cochleostomy.
After the implantation, aural rehabilitation for about six months had been focused on counselling, mapping and auditory training with or without lipreading. The results of preoperative and postoperative speech evaluations were comapared.
According
to
the result of the comparison, the subject showed improvements in performance on the speech perception tests.
We report our experience of a cochlear implant in veiw of the procedure of implantation and aural rehabilitation.
